- Garments are measured flat in inches. Bust, waist, hip, and upper-arm widths are doubled for circumference. Lengths are not doubled.
- A range (34–38) shows relaxed to stretched measurements.
- One number means little to no stretch.
- No bust measurement? Oversized or dolman styles may not have a defined bust. Start with your usual size; sizing up or down may have less effect on the fit.
Common Measurements
- Bust: Across the chest, armpit seam to armpit seam.
- Waist—tops/dresses: Across the narrowest part of the torso, usually 6–8" below the armpit.
- Waist—bottoms: Across the top of the waistband with front and back aligned, first relaxed, then stretched if applicable.
- Full hip: Across the widest part of the hip/seat, usually 7–8" below the waist.
- Inseam: From the crotch seam down the inner leg to the hem.
Additional Measurements
- High hip: Across the upper hip, about 3–4" below the waist. Included when this area may restrict fit.
- Front rise: From the top center of the front waistband down to the crotch seam.
- Pant length: From the top of the waistband at the side down to the hem.
- Dress length: From the shoulder/sleeve seam straight down to the hem.
- Upper arm: Across the widest sleeve area at the bicep, usually 1–2" below the armhole.
